Sandalore is a synthetic sandalwood fragrance whose scent closely resembles natural sandalwood, making it widely used in perfumes, emollients, and skin cleansing products. Sandalore, together with the related compound brahmanol, has been identified as an agonist of the skin olfactory receptor OR2AT4 and is capable of inducing strong Ca²⁺ signaling in cultured human keratinocytes. Prolonged exposure of keratinocytes to Sandalore promotes cell proliferation and migration, as well as the regeneration of keratinocyte monolayers in in-vitro wound scratch assays, indicating enhanced epidermal “wound healing” in human skin organ cultures. In contrast, natural sandalwood oil and other synthetic sandalwood odorants do not exhibit these effects.
