Derived from natural plant sources – Produced using green plant tissues such as bamboo, alfalfa, clover and other natural leaves.
Semi-synthetic stability – The replacement of magnesium ions with copper ions enhances structural stability during use.
Improved functional properties through saponification – Removing methyl and phytol groups increases solubility and usability in various applications.
Part of a versatile pigment family – Shares structural and production features with other valuable chlorophyll-based pigments such as sodium iron and sodium zinc chlorophyll.
Products Description of Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin CAS#11006-34-1
Sodium copper chlorophyllin is produced from natural green plant materials such as silkworm excrement, clover, alfalfa, bamboo, and similar leafy plants. These raw materials are extracted using organic solvents including acetone, methanol, ethanol, and petroleum ether. During processing, the central magnesium ion in chlorophyll is substituted with a copper ion, followed by alkaline saponification to remove methyl and phytol groups, converting them into carboxyl groups and forming a disodium salt. As a result, sodium copper chlorophyllin is categorized as a semi-synthetic pigment. Other pigments with comparable structures and manufacturing methods include sodium iron chlorophyllin and sodium zinc chlorophyllin.
